Chinook I
Chinook was the first submarine designed by the UVSRC. Chinook's hull is made of fiberglass, and features a modular design that can be split into 4 sections to aid in maintenance and reduce shipping cost. The submarine is propelled by a contra rotating propeller assembly to increase efficiency and cancel out torque acting on the submarine while pedaling. The propellers are enclosed by a kort nozzle to further increase their efficiency.
The submarine was raced by the UVSRC at the 4th biennial European International Submarine Race (eISR) at the Qinetic Basin in Gosport, England in 2018. Chinook took the top marks for 3 out of the 5 grading components (design report, wet inspection, and reliability), while placing 4th overall. Chinook and the UVSRC did extremely well for this being the first competition the club had taken part of.
